The philosophical area most distinctively concerned with normativity, almost by definition, is ethics. Normativism in the theory of meaning and content is the view that linguistic meaning and/or intentional content essentially is normative. Wedgwood (2009, 424), for instance, argues that the claim that normativity is built into our concept of meaning/content could be true even if the corresponding metaphysical claim was false. See also Gibbard (2012) who argues that while the concept of meaning is normative, the property of meaning is not normative.
